Medium Format Film Scanner
Most of the amateur photographers are using the digital imaging, but there is nothing like a medium format
camera, which makes you also need the hardware to print and post those beautiful photos.
Scanning your Medium Format Film
Ideally you would need a good quality medium format film scanner.
A medium format film scanner though its price dramatically became lower due to the entry of digital films
doesn’t come cheap. So buyers should be keen in selecting the fine scanner. Such as knowing exactly what you will
use it for – Is it for your company? Are you professionalizing on photography? Or you are just an amateur and you
want your craft from your hobby to look good? Also you should know if you prefer flatbed over the film scanner.
If you will use it for professional and business reasons prepare your budget since quality medium format
film scanners does not come cheap. You can check out the so called
high-end scanner Imacon which is priced at five thousand dollars ($5000). Or perhaps you can review the
cheaper but still way pricey the Polaroid SprintScan 120, the Nikon 8000 ED and finally the Minolta DiMage Scan
Multi Pro which would also do great but they are still priced at around three thousand dollars ($3000).
They are way cheaper than Imacon which is a great deal for those that needs their craft done eloquently.
On the other hand if you need scanners for your personal use, you don’t need a thousand dollars to keep your
hobby since a lot of scanners are already available that are priced in less than a thousand dollars, such as the
Nikon Cool Scan, the Konoka Minolta Dual and Konoka Minolta Elite, or the popularly used among Amateurs is the
Epson 2450 or the latest flavor of the month Canon 2400U, this scanner is producing 2400 X 4800 resolution. Those
are all flat beds, if you want to scan your slides you should look for Agfa scanners which is also cheap but are
producing quality slide scans.
In buying a medium format film scanner, just like buying any
scanner, the resolution that is being produced should be a major consideration whether it is for your business or
home use. With it you should also have a good computer system with an advance memory capacity for all that storing
needs and of course the fine and easy to use software for your editing.
Last but not the least you should ensure that even if you got your medium format film scanner for a bargain, it
is advisable that it protected with a warranty.
